Company history
The Laidlaw name descends from Heran & Lees, a New York commission merchant founded in 1842, which became Laidlaw & Co. in 1873 and joined the NYSE in 1878. Today's broker-dealer was incorporated in England in 1999 as Sands Brothers International Limited and renamed Laidlaw & Company (UK) Ltd. in 2004; it is owned by Laidlaw Holdings Ltd. Matthew Eitner and James Ahern joined in 2010 to build its healthcare investment banking platform.
