Samsara (IOT)

Connects physical operations through devices, subscription software, workflows, and AI insights.

$39.23
vs last close+0.97 (+2.55%)

Samsara wires up the parts of the economy that happen outdoors — trucks, excavators, job sites, the people who work them. Its own cameras and tracking boxes go on the equipment; customers pay a subscription per vehicle or machine for the software that makes sense of what comes back. Cameras and vehicle tracking carry most of the money today, and a shelf of newer apps is the bet on what comes next.

  • AI Video-Based Safety (AI Dash Cam and AI Multicam)

    · Product line

Cameras that watch the road and the driver at once, billed per vehicle. Management calls it the company's largest product and one of the two things new customers usually buy first. Watch whether the 360-degree add-on lands on the same trucks.

Competes with Driver·i quad-camera systems (Netradyne) · AI Dashcam Plus (Motive) · Lytx video safety program (Lytx)

    In plain English

Two lenses in a windshield: one facing the road, one facing the person driving. The software scores the risky moments, pulls the clip that matters out of hours of footage, and gives a supervisor something to coach from instead of an argument about what happened.

A fleet pays by the vehicle, month after month, for as long as the cameras stay in the trucks. The pitch is money rather than virtue — fewer crashes means fewer claims and cheaper cover, which is why Allianz UK, an insurer, now points its motor-fleet customers at discounted Samsara cameras. Outside surveys put the price at roughly thirty dollars per vehicle a month.

  • Vehicle Telematics (Vehicle Gateway)

    · Product line

The box in the vehicle that reports where it is, how it is being driven and the hours the driver logged. Paired with the cameras it made up over $1 billion of the $1.46 billion of yearly subscriptions in early 2025.

Competes with MyGeotab and GO devices (Geotab) · Motive fleet platform (Motive) · Reveal (Verizon Connect)

    In plain English

Every commercial vehicle already knows things about itself — where it is, how fast, how hard it stopped, how much fuel it burned. A small box wired in behind the dash gathers all of that and sends it onward over the cell network.

Why fleets pay: US rules oblige drivers to log their hours, and the box does that logging on its own, while dispatchers get a live map instead of a round of phone calls. The fee runs per vehicle, on deals that last years. It is also the doorway — with the box already in the truck, Samsara can switch on routing, navigation or maintenance without anyone touching the vehicle again.

  • Public Sector Program

    · Customer programRamping

Police, fire, transit, sanitation and school fleets buying the same cameras and trackers as truckers. It passed $100 million of yearly subscriptions in late 2025 — dollars that already sit inside the camera and tracking lines.

Competes with Public sector telematics (Geotab) · Verizon Connect municipal fleet (Verizon)

    In plain English

Cities and states run enormous fleets nobody thinks of as fleets — garbage trucks, fire engines, squad cars, school buses, transit buses.

The way it gets bought is what makes it its own thing. One department tries the cameras, the result gets shown to the next department, and the contract grows sideways across the whole place: a top-five US city went from a single fleet division to every department, then added road-condition mapping across thousands of lane miles. These deals move on budget years and procurement rules rather than sales quarters, so they are slow — but that city, a transit authority and the State of Louisiana each arrived carrying four or more products at once.

  • Equipment Monitoring (Asset Gateways)

    · Product line

Boxes bolted to excavators, cranes, generators and trailers so an owner knows where a machine is, whether it is running and if it has left the site. Field services brought in the most new business last quarter.

Competes with Product Link / VisionLink (Caterpillar) · Iris (Trackunit) · T3 (EquipmentShare)

    In plain English

A contractor with machines spread over a dozen sites often cannot answer a simple question: where is the loader, and is anybody actually using it? A weatherproof box wired to the machine answers it — where it sits, the hours it has run, the faults it is throwing.

The money argument is theft and idle iron. Samsara's own study puts equipment theft and loss at around eighteen million dollars a year for a mid-size operation. Customers pay per machine. On some equipment Samsara ships no box at all and pulls the readings straight out of the manufacturer's own system instead.

  • Asset Tags and Tracking Label

    · Product lineRamping

Cheap Bluetooth tags for the things without engines — tools, buckets, containers, fuel tanks — found by the cameras and gateways already installed. Tag subscriptions more than tripled in a year, off a small base.

Competes with Kin T200 tags (Trackunit) · Shipment trackers (Tive)

    In plain English

Picture a small plastic tag screwed to a tool box. It has no phone connection of its own; it just calls out its name over Bluetooth, and any Samsara camera or gateway within earshot passes the message home.

Which means a tag is only worth what the crowd of listeners around it is worth. That is why Samsara also plugged into Hubble Network, an outfit whose software turns roughly ninety million ordinary smartphones into listeners, to cover ground its own devices do not reach. A newer single-use sticker version travels with a shipment on whichever carrier is hauling it.

  • Connected Asset Maintenance

    · ProductRamping

Service scheduling, work orders and warranty claims run off readings the vehicles already send, sold with no new hardware. Hertz signed the biggest deal so far, across its North American fleet. Still early days by management's own description.

Competes with Fleetio maintenance platform (Fleetio) · TMT Fleet Maintenance (Trimble) · FleetFocus (AssetWorks)

    In plain English

The unglamorous job that eats an equipment-heavy company's budget: knowing which vehicle is due for service, ordering the part, paying the shop, and clawing back whatever the warranty should have covered.

Samsara already sees the engine hours and the fault codes, so it sells the paperwork layer on top — work orders, vendors, parts, scanned invoices, a screen for the technician. Nothing ships, nothing gets installed, and the whole fee is software. One heavy-civil contractor spending eighty to a hundred million dollars a year on maintenance called this the biggest saving in its deal.

  • Samsara Platform — Samsara Intelligence, AI Agents and App Marketplace

    · Platform

The shared data layer under every product, plus the AI helpers now built on it — Samsara says it took in over 30 trillion readings last year. Company-wide, about $4.3 billion of subscriptions was signed and not yet delivered as of August 2026.

Competes with MyGeotab Marketplace (Geotab) · Motive AI features (Motive)

    In plain English

Nothing here carries a price tag. Every camera, gateway and tag feeds one pile of records about how physical work actually happened — a pile Samsara argues nobody can copy off the internet, because it only exists where the devices are.

That pile is what the newer software sells against. Samsara now points helpers at it that draft the driver coaching, chase the warranty claim and shuffle back-office dispatch. You see it on the bill only as more products per customer: among customers paying at least a hundred thousand dollars a year, nearly all take two or more products and most take three or more — and that group alone is roughly two-thirds of subscriptions.
