Argus Research Company
Argus Research is an independent equity research firm based in New York and part of Argus Research Group. Founded in 1934, it was one of the first firms to provide systematic, independent research on US equities to professional investors.
Company history
Economist Harold Dorsey founded Argus Research Company in 1934. Its money-management affiliate, Argus Investors' Counsel, an SEC-registered investment adviser, was incorporated in 1960. Argus acquired Vickers Stock Research, a provider of insider and institutional holdings data, in 1976, and incorporated Argus Vickers in London in 1993. The firm is privately held and headquartered in New York.

Research
Argus analysts cover about 500 companies as of 2026, and its quantitative A6 model rates more than 1,100 others; analysis follows a six-point framework of industry, growth, financial strength, management, risk and valuation. Reports are distributed through brokerage platforms such as Fidelity. Each covered stock carries a 12-month Buy, Hold or Sell rating relative to the S&P 500 on a risk-adjusted basis, plus a five-year rating.
