Longbow Research is an independent equity research firm in Independence, Ohio, near Cleveland, known for channel-check-based coverage of mid-cap industrial, consumer and technology companies.
Company history
Longbow Research was founded in 2003 by David MacGregor, the founding chairman and chief executive of Midwest Research, with researchers who had been at the Cleveland firm when First Tennessee acquired it and renamed it FTN Midwest. Longbow began with seven researchers and by 2009 had more than 70 employees and a New York office. MacGregor leads the firm as president and senior analyst.

Research
Longbow's analysts build investment theses from supply-channel checks, industry surveys, retail polls and industry contacts, and the firm also offers corporate access conferences, operational tours and custom research projects. Its broker-dealer, Longbow Securities, did not engage in investment banking or make markets. Stocks are rated Buy, Neutral or Sell on expected 12-month total return; earlier disclosures set the Buy and Sell thresholds at plus and minus 20%.
