Neuberger Berman, branded Neuberger since 2026, is a private, employee-owned investment manager in New York with about $613 billion under management (June 2026). It is a buy-side firm and does not operate a sell-side equity research business.
Company history
Roy Neuberger and Robert Berman founded the firm in New York in 1939, and it launched one of the first no-load mutual funds in 1950. It listed on the NYSE in October 1999 and was acquired by Lehman Brothers in 2003 for about $2.63 billion. After Lehman's 2008 collapse, management bought a majority stake in 2009, and the firm returned to full employee ownership by the end of 2014.
