Company history

Doug Johnson, a former Howard Weil broker, and Tim Rice founded the firm in June 1987 as an institutional research and sales house, four months before the October 1987 crash. It added investment banking in 1991 and remains independently owned in New Orleans. Co-founder Doug Johnson died in August 2024.

Research

As of 2025, three senior analysts covered about 65 companies of all market capitalizations across exploration and production, oilfield services, and energy transition and infrastructure; the firm also offers corporate access through non-deal roadshows, conferences, bus trips and investor calls.
