The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
Goldman Sachs is a New York-based global investment bank and one of the bulge-bracket firms. Its Global Investment Research division publishes equity, credit, economic and strategy research, and held ratings on about 3,000 stocks worldwide as of January 2026.
Company history
Marcus Goldman founded the firm in New York in 1869; his son-in-law Samuel Sachs joined in 1882, and the partnership adopted the Goldman, Sachs & Co. name in 1885. It joined the New York Stock Exchange as a member firm in 1896 and remained privately owned until its 1999 NYSE listing. It became a bank holding company in 2008 and today operates global banking and markets, and asset and wealth management businesses.
