Company history

Richard Kramer, previously ranked the top European technology analyst at Goldman Sachs for four years, founded Arete in early 2000 with fellow analysts including Brett Simpson, before the Wall Street research scandals of 2001-2003. The firm operates through Arete Research Services LLP in the UK, Arete Research LLC in the US and Arete Research Asia in Hong Kong, regulated by the FCA, FINRA and the SFC. Simpson left in February 2026 to join Qualcomm.

Arete covers semiconductors, enterprise software and cybersecurity, internet and e-commerce, and telecoms, cable and media, serving more than 250 technology investors as of 2026.
