Telsey Advisory Group (TAG) is a New York-based broker-dealer focused on retail and consumer companies, offering equity research, institutional sales and trading, investment banking and consulting. It is known for retail research led by its founder, a long-time top-ranked retail analyst.
Company history
TAG was founded in August 2006 by its namesake, a former Bear Stearns senior managing director who had been Institutional Investor's No. 1 specialty stores analyst for seven consecutive years through 2005. In 2015 the founder also formed Telsey Consumer Fund Management, manager of a consumer-focused long/short hedge fund. In December 2024 TAG agreed to supply U.S. retail and consumer research to clients of Santander's U.S. broker-dealer. The firm is certified as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise.

TAG covered close to 100 companies as of December 2024, spanning apparel and footwear, cosmetics, department stores, discounters, internet retail, luxury goods, off-price retailers and supermarkets. Since September 2014 it has rated stocks Outperform, Market Perform or Underperform against the average total return of the industry universe over 12 months. In June 2024 its 86 rated stocks were split evenly between Outperform and Market Perform, with none rated Underperform.
